instead of using just a pure multiply layer try to use a clones lunimance layer of the shaded component on top of it and a clone of the color on top of that in "color" layermode.

naw, is pretty easy and intuitive, there is a lot of documentation online x3 and tutorials, honestly I find it more easy than silly photoshop, and its GPL X3
